July 2026 — iCARE Lab Website Launched
The official website of the Intelligent Computing for Advanced Research in Healthcare (iCARE) Lab is now live. The website provides information about our research, publications, research team, teaching activities, professional service, and recent developments.
July 2026 — Manuscript Submitted on 3D CT Angiography Enhancement
Our manuscript, “Body-Aware 3D Wavelet Enhancement for Structure-Preserving CT Angiography Analysis,” was submitted to Biomedical Signal Processing and Control. The work investigates structure-preserving enhancement of three-dimensional CT angiography data and evaluates its impact across multiple imaging datasets and downstream segmentation experiments.
July 2026 — iCARE Lab Project Selected for KSU First-Year Scholars Program
My project, “Exploring AI in Healthcare: 3D Medical Image Segmentation and Analysis,” was selected for the 2026–2027 Kennesaw State University First-Year Scholars Program.
The project will introduce first-year undergraduate students to artificial intelligence for healthcare, with a focus on three-dimensional medical image segmentation and analysis. Students will gain hands-on research experience working with medical imaging data, computational methods, and reproducible AI workflows under mentorship through the iCARE Lab.
June 2026 — Mammography Research Accepted for SEET 2026
Our paper, “A Reproducible Multi-View Mammogram Classification Baseline Using Dual-View Fusion on VinDr-Mammo,” was accepted for presentation and publication in the proceedings of the 2026 International Conference on Software Engineering of Emerging Technologies (SEET 2026).
The work develops a reproducible deep-learning baseline for mammography classification using complementary mammographic views and investigates the value of dual-view information for breast cancer classification.
May 2026 — Undergraduate Research Project Accepted to KSU Sophomore Scholars Program
My project, “Beyond the Baseline: A Comparative Analysis of Vision-Language Models and ResNet50 for Few-Shot and Full-Data Cancer Classification,” was accepted for the 2026–2027 Kennesaw State University Sophomore Scholars Program.
The project will provide undergraduate students with a year-long mentored research experience investigating vision-language models and conventional deep learning approaches for medical image classification. Students will participate in research, scholarly dissemination, and presentation of their work through KSU’s undergraduate research program.
May 2026 — AortaSeg24 Challenge Paper Accepted in Medical Image Analysis
Our collaborative manuscript, “Multi-Class Segmentation of Aortic Branches and Zones in Computed Tomography Angiography: The AortaSeg24 Challenge,” was accepted for publication in Medical Image Analysis, pending minor revisions.
The study presents the AortaSeg24 Challenge and evaluates methods for multi-class segmentation of the aorta, its branches, and anatomical zones in three-dimensional computed tomography angiography (CTA) images.
May 1, 2026 — Student Wins Second Place at KSU Analytics Day
Bryce Wishart, whom I mentored in DATA 4140 — Python for Data Science, earned Second Place in the Undergraduate Category at Kennesaw State University’s Spring 2026 Analytics Day for his project, “Steam Marketplace: Deep Model Prediction of Video Game User Ratings.”
The project applied deep learning methods to predict video game user ratings and was developed as part of his work in Python for Data Science.

April 2026 — First-Year Scholar Presents Cancer Classification Research at NCUR 2026
Undergraduate researcher Alayna Zafar, a member of the 2025–2026 Kennesaw State University First-Year Scholars research team, presented the project “Beyond the Baseline: A Comparative Analysis of Vision-Language Models and ResNet50 for Few-Shot and Full-Data Cancer Classification” at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2026), held April 13–15, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia.
The project was conducted by Alex Rojas, Sagar Patil, and Alayna Zafar under mentorship through the iCARE Lab. The research compared vision-language models and ResNet50 for cancer image classification under few-shot and full-data learning settings. The work was also presented at the KSU Symposium of Student Scholars.

Reflecting on her experiences at NCUR and the KSU Symposium, Alayna shared that presenting the research strengthened her ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, enhanced her confidence as a presenter, and reinforced her interest in combining clinical medicine with scientific innovation.
March 2026 — Research Presented at American Mathematical Society Meeting
Our work, “Beyond the Baseline: A Comparative Analysis of Vision-Language Models and ResNet50 for Few-Shot and Full-Data Cancer Classification,” was presented at the 2026 American Mathematical Society Spring Southeastern Sectional Meeting in Savannah, Georgia.
The project was conducted with undergraduate researchers Alex Rojas, Alayna Zafar, and Sagar Patil as part of their mentored research in artificial intelligence for medical image analysis.
2026 — iCARE Lab Research Computing Infrastructure Expanded
The iCARE Lab expanded its dedicated research computing infrastructure to support large-scale artificial intelligence, deep learning, three-dimensional medical image analysis, and multimodal research.
The new computing environment supports ongoing work in medical image segmentation, vascular analysis, agentic AI, and other computationally intensive research.

November 2025 — Student Team Earns Third Place at KSU Analytics Day
Undergraduate students Luz Corral Parra and Anna Seville, mentored by Dr. Muhammad Imran, earned Third Place (tie) in the Undergraduate Poster Competition at Kennesaw State University’s Analytics Day for their project, “Predicting Circuit Board Failure Using Machine Learning.”
The project applied machine learning methods to a practical engineering prediction problem and was developed as part of their work in DATA 4140 — Python for Data Science.

November 2025 — AI-Enhanced Micro-Ultrasound Study Accepted in BJUI Compass
Our collaborative manuscript, “AI-Enhanced Micro-Ultrasound Improves Detection of Clinically Significant Prostate Cancer at Biopsy,” was accepted for publication in BJUI Compass.
The study investigates the use of artificial intelligence with micro-ultrasound imaging to improve detection of clinically significant prostate cancer during biopsy.
September 2025 — Undergraduate Research Project Launched through KSU First-Year Scholars Program
My project, “Artificial Intelligence for Cancer Detection: Processing Medical Images and Generating Clinical Reports,” was selected for the 2025–2026 Kennesaw State University First-Year Scholars Program.
More than 30 first-year students expressed interest in the project, and Alex Rojas, Sagar Patil, and Alayna Zafar were ultimately matched to work with me. Through the year-long research experience, the students investigated artificial intelligence and medical image analysis while developing skills in computational research, scientific communication, and scholarly dissemination.
Fall 2025 — iCARE Lab Established at Kennesaw State University
The Intelligent Computing for Advanced Research in Healthcare (iCARE) Lab was established in the School of Data Science and Analytics at Kennesaw State University.
The lab focuses on artificial intelligence for healthcare, medical image analysis, machine learning, multimodal AI, and reproducible computational methods for clinically relevant research problems.
